The Hair is on a mission. The Prime Minister thinks he can pull off a miracle in October and win a second straight parliamentary majority. While his strategy makes sense, his assumptions are faulty and his tactics are far too heavy handed.
Strategically it is vital that he keep his opponents divided. The more the Liberals and New Democrats attack each other, the easier his work becomes. As it is, he is concentrating his attacks on the Liberals. With nowhere to go in Quebec but down in numbers, the New Democrats have been looking hard for signs of gains. They got that in Alberta last week with the win by provincial NDP in that province. The Hair and Tommy Mulcair can both take brief pleasure in the win.
Of all the tactics involved in the run-up to the October election, the Hair is counting on the ethnic pandering of his party’s foreign affairs. The most shameless has been with Canada’s Jews. By taking huge delegations of Canada’s Jewish communities to Israel with him, the Hair has targetted electoral districts with large Jewish populations such as Mont Royal in Montreal and Thornhill in Toronto.
It is the same with those he chooses to invite to Ottawa to be feted as friends of Canada such as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. With almost a half million immigrants from India in Ontario alone, the Hair’s tactics were obvious.
This tactic even emboldened the Hair (while carefully hiding behind the Americans) to tweak the Russians for their bad foreign relations in the Ukraine. With the very large numbers of Ukrainian-Canadians, the Hair made it obvious whose votes he wanted.
But when you choose sides, you create winners and losers. The Hair obviously has decided to trade Muslim votes for anti-Muslim votes. He has used our military to do things that they are ill-equipped to do. He knows Canadians will support their troops.
He wants to be known as a good manager of Canada’s budgets, which he is not. His economics are a sham. His government has repeatedly taken monies from already approved budgets. He wants legislation to strengthen our police but denies the RCM Police the weapons and training they were promised. He promises environmental protection but fires the scientists pushing for those new rules.
But few can fault the Hair’s determination. He will fight hard to keep his free hairdresser.
